Teaching Assistant for the SALL Center (Ref.2017/056/01)

Post Specification 

Applicants should have (i) at least a Bachelor’s degree or higher; (ii) fluency in spoken English and good English writing skills, (iii) good personal and communication skills; (iv) the ability to work independently and as a team; (v) IT literacy, especially in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook, email); and (vi) willingness to take up extra responsibilities as needed.

Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer - The Centre for Self-Access Language Learning (Ref.2017/006/01)

The Self-Access Language Learning Centre (The SALL Centre) is a unit within the School of Humanities and Social Science set up to provide individualized language learning opportunities for students to consolidate and brush up their level of English language proficiency. The Centre is open to all students enrolled at CUHK(SZ), regardless of their levels of study. Learning is completely on students’ own, at the students’ own pace and by the students’ own choice of learning materials.

Services provided at the Centre include computerized English learning programmes, tutoring/consultation, workshops, seminars and the English Table. The e-learning programmes are self-accessed and provide students with the opportunity to reinforce and expand their knowledge and skills in the use of English. Tutoring provides students with face-to-face consultation on problems and issues students may have in using English. Workshops and seminars are offered regularly to students on specific areas of language that may be of interest to students. The English Table is set up to provide opportunities for students to have care free conversations in English.

Post Specification 

Applicants should have (i) a post-graduate degree in English, TEFL/TESOL, or (applied) linguistics; (ii) at least three (3) years of teaching experience in ESL/EFL or English at the tertiary level; (iii) proven record of teaching excellence; and (iv) native-like fluency and competence in spoken and written English. Experience in materials writing, programme planning and/or working in a language lab or Writing Centre will be a plus.

The School of Humanities and Social Science at CUHK(SZ) invites applications for faculty positions in social science, arts and humanities at the Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor levels with prospect for tenure.

Junior applicants should have (i) a PhD degree (by the time of reporting duty) in the areas of social science, arts and humanities; and (ii) high potential in teaching and research.


Applicants should be able to teach a wide range of courses, especially in core areas of social science, arts and humanities. Experience in supervising postgraduate students will be favorably considered.

 

Candidates for Associate and Full Professor posts are expected to have demonstrated academic leadership and strong commitment to the highest standard of excellence. Appointments will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, leading to longer-term appointment or tenure later subject to mutual agreement. Applicants should have (i) a Master degree or above in Physical Education or Sports Science; if major in Bachelor degree is not Physical Education or Sports Coaching, coach qualification of International Sports Association or at least 2ndgrade athlete qualification of General Administration of Sports in China will be required; (ii) relevant experience in teaching and coaching at University level; and (iii) knowledge of Chinese and English.


The appointee will be responsible for (a) teaching physical education courses for undergraduates including international students (activities may include Rock Climbing, Cross-country Orienteering, International Athletic Dancing, Archery, Swimming, Korfball, Taekwondo,etc.), as well as courses in fitness and health; (b) undertaking coaching during term time and summer months; and (c) assisting in organizing sports activities and in administrative duties related to physical education.
